The Nelson Civic Theatre Society (NCTS) runs The Civic Theatre and this website. This page explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, and what you can do about it.
We never sell your information.
What we collect
When you buy tickets, donate, name a seat, become a member, volunteer or contact us, we ask for what we need to do that. Usually that’s your name, email address, phone number and mailing address. We also keep a record of your purchases, donations and requests.
If you have an account, we keep your sign-in email. If you set a password, we store it only in scrambled form, so nobody at NCTS can read it.
We also collect information about how people use this website, such as the pages visited, the device and browser used, roughly where visitors are, and whether they arrived from one of our ads. We use this to improve the site and to measure our advertising, and we don’t use it to identify you.
How we use your information
- To process your tickets, donations, memberships and bookings, and send your receipts.
- To issue official donation receipts for income tax.
- To reply when you get in touch.
- To send our e-newsletter and news about our events, campaigns and fundraising. You can opt out any time with the unsubscribe link in any of these emails, or by contacting us.
- If you name a seat, the dedication you choose is displayed.
Payments
Card payments are handled by Stripe. Your card details go straight to Stripe; we never see or store your full card number.
If you choose to save a card, or set up a monthly donation or payment plan, Stripe keeps the card securely so later payments can be charged. You can cancel a recurring payment or ask us to remove a saved card at any time.
Who else handles your information
We share information only with service providers that help us run this site, such as payment processing, email delivery, hosting and spam protection, and only for that work. Some of them store information outside Canada, including in the United States, where local laws apply to it. We may also disclose information when the law requires it.
Cookies
We use cookies to keep you signed in and to remember your place in a form or checkout. Our payment and spam-protection services set their own cookies to detect fraud and abuse.
We also use cookies from analytics and advertising services to understand how people use the site and to measure whether our ads lead to ticket sales and donations. You can block these cookies in your browser settings, or limit ad tracking in the ad settings those services provide.
How long we keep your information
We keep your information while you have an account or an ongoing connection with us, and for as long as we need it for our records. Donation and payment records are kept for as long as the Canada Revenue Agency requires.
Your choices
You can view and update your details any time in your account. To get a copy of the information we hold about you, correct it, or ask us to delete it, email us. Some records, such as donation receipts, we have to keep by law.
