There is nothing normal about this year’s biggest celebration of Hollywood, The Oscars. Happening on April 25th, delayed by two-months from its usual window, many of the titles on this year’s list couldn’t even be seen on a big screen thanks to the ongoing wake of a troublesome virus. What this delay has resulted in though, is a fortuitous alignment with Canada’s biggest celebration of cinema, National Canadian Film Day on April 21st.
So, aided by the safety of our outdoor D.I.Y. Drive-In, The Civic Theatre is excited to provide Nelson audiences the opportunity to get your fill of current Oscar contenders up on the big wall, as well as honouring a Canadian classic that went on to be nominated for either a Best Foreign Language or Best Director Oscar, prior to the Oscars broadcast on Sunday, April 25th.
National Canadian Film Day is a free/by donation event on Apr. 21st. Visit this poll to cast your vote between Deepa Mehta’s, ‘Water’, Dennis Villenueve’s, ‘Incendies’, and Atom Egoyan’s, ‘The Sweet Hereafter’.
And to catch some of the current Best Picture nominated films before the big day, come out to ‘Minari’ on Apr. 15th, ‘Judas and the Black Messiah’ on Apr. 23rd, and ‘The Father’ on Apr. 24th.
