We’re thrilled to announce that after nearly a year closed, Reo’s Video will be REOpening on Wednesday, March 17th, 2021! This much-loved local DVD rental store has been a mainstay in the community since 1987 when it was founded by Reo Rocheleau. Originally it was a neighborhood corner store but shifted to renting out VHS tapes. Over the years Reo’s Video has changed locations 3 times but it’s new home will be at 225 Hall St, Nelson, BC V1L 5X4.
The word of the year in relation to COVID 19? PIVOT. (You can just picture Ross from friends yelling this in your ear, right?!) With the huge economic effects that the pandemic has had on the movie theatre industry, both The Civic and Reo’s Video have decided to pivot our operations, join forces and diversify our businesses. We think that it’s a match made in cinema heaven (and are kind of wondering why we didn’t think of this earlier?!) The Civic Theatre purchased Reo’s Video in December 2020 and Reo’s Video will continue to contribute to the local film and media arts community in the Kootenays.
The Reo’s Video collection features an amazing 18,000 DVDs. This is four times more than Netflix and many of these titles are not available on any streaming service at all! With the REOpening of Reo’s we are also launching a new online catalogue (sneak peek here) where you can browse our entire collection without leaving the couch! Been wanting to watch that movie your friends told you about? Check if we have it online, quickly and easily! You’ll still have to come into the store to actually rent the title but that’s the best part of the Reo’s Video experience, right? You’ll probably find a movie that you never even knew existed before!
We hope to see you in the store very soon!
